Larry Kanusher is currently a Shareholder at Greenberg Traurig, LLP, a law firm with more than 2750 attorneys in 47 locations in the United States, Europe and the Middle East, Latin America and Asia.
Larry is a member of the firm’s Media and Entertainment Practice Group, and concentrates his practice on complex entertainment, media, intellectual property and technology transactions. He joined the firm in October 2011 and represents digital media clients in a wide variety of entertainment, media, intellectual property and technology transactions, and specializes in the acquisition and exploitation of recorded music and music publishing rights. In this capacity, Larry also advises clients on new business models, negotiation strategy, legal exposure and risk avoidance.
Prior to that, Larry was Senior Vice President, Business and Legal Affairs, Global Digital Business for Sony Music Entertainment (SME), a position he held from April 2006 to August 2011. From August 2004 to April 2006, he was Vice President, Business and Legal Affairs, Global Digital Business. From April 2002 to August 2004, he was Vice President, Business Affairs, New Technology & Business Development. In June 2000, he became Director, Business Affairs, New Technology & Business Development, a position he held until April 2002.
Prior to that, Larry was Senior Counsel in SME’s Law Department from June 1997 to May 1998, and from February 1999 to June 2000. In between, Larry left SME to serve as Vice President, Business Affairs for Island Records, Inc., until his return to SME as Senior Counsel in February 1999. Prior to his initial stint as Senior Counsel, he was Counsel in SME’s Law Department from June 1995 to June 1997. He first joined SME in September 1992 as Director, Business Affairs for Sony Music International, a position he held until June 1995.
Between 1990 and 1992, Larry was an attorney in the Business Affairs department of EMI Records. Before that, Larry served as an associate at the entertainment litigation law firm of Gold Farrell & Marks from September 1989 to September 1990, where he worked on copyright, music and litigation matters. Larry began his legal career as a Law Clerk for the Honorable Mitchell H. Cohen, a U.S. District Court Judge in New Jersey, a position he held from September 1988 to September 1989.
Larry received a J.D. degree from Brooklyn Law School in 1988, and a B.A. degree from Union College in 1984.
