ABOUT

Nuclear Cowboy is the genre-warping project of Brooklyn-based artist, producer, songwriter, and performer Mitchell Gilman. Raised in Whitefish, Montana, and shaped by everything from Modest Mouse, TV On The Radio, Aphex Twin, Squarepusher, John Maus, Gorillaz, Mobb Deep, Nas, Crystal Castles, and LCD Soundsystem, Gilman creates music that thrives on contradiction: folk and electronics, sincerity and absurdity, intimacy and spectacle, vulnerability and humor.

After moving to New York City, Gilman taught himself piano, production, sound design, songwriting, mixing, and mastering, eventually building Nuclear Cowboy into a fully self-created world. Following early albums in 2020 and 2022, he gained momentum through a steady run of singles and live performances in 2024 and 2025, with Tinnitist noting that his audience grew from roughly 1,500 to nearly 100,000 monthly listeners in 2025.

Recent releases like “Girls Like Ketamine,” “Have a Nice Day!,” and “Some City Girl” highlight Nuclear Cowboy’s playful, dance-forward, and off-kilter pop instincts, while the 2026 EP If You Need Me, I’ll Be Here reveals a more vulnerable and reflective side.

At its core, Nuclear Cowboy is about reinvention. Gilman’s music asks listeners to find strength in vulnerability, embrace contradiction, and remember that stagnation is not the only option. You can always change. You can always become something new.
