Matthew Bass
Vice President, Research and Gold & Platinum Operations, RIAA
Matt Bass is Vice President of Research and Gold & Platinum Operations at the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). His work helps tell the story of the recorded music industry through measurable trends and quantitative data, including annual revenue reports. These insights offer points for policy discussions and support efforts to protect copyright in the US. Matt has also contributed to modernization efforts of RIAA’s Gold & Platinum Program, overseeing data behind the coveted certifications celebrating artist and label successes.
The Accident, MD native grew up on his family farm before earning a BA in Economics at the University of Maryland and starting his career in DC. Prior to joining RIAA a decade ago, Matt worked in the Geothermal and Solar Energy Departments at the Department of Energy, managing federal funds for research projects. His other experiences include stops at the General Services Administration on technology projects and serving as an analyst under the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act. Matt’s true passion for music and statistical aptitude led to his current role at RIAA.
