As the Head of Music Policy at YouTube, Suzana Carlos is a key figure in shaping the company's legislative and negotiation strategies, particularly concerning generative AI in music. Her work is centered on crafting policies that balance the needs of both YouTube's users and business while also protecting the company's ability to innovate responsibly. She builds relationships and trust with global policymakers, helping to influence regulations and highlight YouTube’s positive impact on society and the wider music ecosystem.

Before taking on her current role, Suzana served as Senior Counsel on YouTube's Global Music Publishing team from 2018 to 2022. Her extensive career in the music industry also includes senior attorney positions at major organizations such as the American Society of Composers Authors and Publishers (ASCAP), Universal Music Group, and EMI Music Publishing.

A native of California, Suzana now resides in Brooklyn with her husband and nine-year-old daughter. Although she doesn’t have musical talent herself, she is a huge fan of live music and often spends her free time at concerts.

Suzana is a proud alumna of the University of California, Los Angeles and Fordham University School of Law. She also holds a board position with the Digital Media Association (DiMA), the leading organization for digital music services in the U.S.

Deep fake technologies have improved and proliferated, flooding our feeds with unauthorized digital replicas in the form of unsanctioned cover songs, sales scams, memes, and beyond – and we still don’t have in place a federal legal framework to establish rules of the road. This panel features experts on AI policy from across the spectrum who will address the current state of play, including the inner workings and status of the bicameral, bipartisan NO FAKES Act, and what it takes these days to build consensus across industries and the political aisle.
