Executive Vice President/Head of Licensing, ASCAP

Stephanie Ruyle is Executive Vice President/Head of Licensing at ASCAP, one of the largest performance rights organizations in the world, representing more than one million songwriters, composers and publishers and more than 20 million works. She is a key member of ASCAP’s leadership team, responsible for licensing revenues and operations across all platforms including digital A/V and audio-only streaming platforms, broadcast and cable television, terrestrial and satellite radio, live concert promoters/venues, retail, restaurants, bars, background music, etc. Since Ruyle joined the organization in December 2017, ASCAP has continued to grow revenues in all licensing categories. In 2024, ASCAP delivered record-high revenues of $1.835 billion, an increase of $98 million over the prior year. Founded and governed by songwriters, composers and publishers, ASCAP returns nearly 90 cents of every dollar collected to its members as royalties.

Prior to joining ASCAP, Ruyle was Executive Vice President, Distribution and Affiliate Relations, for Participant Media’s television venture Pivot, a millennial-targeted television network focused on socially relevant content. In this role, Ruyle was responsible for developing and executing the launch and distribution strategy, including negotiating and structuring distribution agreements for Pivot content across long-form and short-form content platforms, digital and traditional; and business development, identifying new business and partnership opportunities within the content distribution space.

Ruyle began her career in entertainment and media with Viacom in their distribution group. She served in a series of ascending positions within Viacom over a career that spanned 17 years with leadership positions in national accounts, field sales, affiliate marketing and affiliate ad sales. In addition, Ruyle led the distribution efforts for Viacom's international content in the U.S., the initial launch of EPIX as well as leading the strategy and negotiations for several major MVPDs.

Ruyle obtained her MBA from Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management and earned her B.A. from the University of Iowa’s Tippie College of Business. Ruyle also served on Kellogg's Alumni Board of Directors, is a Betsy Magness Leadership Institute Fellow, and attended ongoing leadership development programs at both Harvard and Stanford Universities.
