EVP & General Counsel, ASCAP

Clara Kim is EVP & General Counsel of ASCAP, one of the largest performance rights organizations in the world, representing more than 720,000 songwriters, composers and publishers and more than 11.5 million works. She has oversight of the dealmaking and enforcement of contracts generating more than $1.2 billion in royalties. Clara is a key driver of groundbreaking licensing deals on behalf of ASCAP, with major streaming services such as Netflix, YouTube, Spotify and Apple Music, as well as major media groups such as NBC Universal, Disney/ABC, the TVMLC (Television Music Licensing Committee) and RMLC (Radio Music Licensing Committee). Clara also led negotiations for ASCAP with music and tech industry stakeholders and Capitol Hill lawmakers for the Music Modernization Act, which provides modernized judicial and evidentiary protections for creators and music publishers in connection with the market value of public performance rights. She is also steering discussions with the Department of Justice regarding its review of the ASCAP Consent Decree. Clara was named one of Billboard�s Top Music Lawyers in 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019, and was among the top entertainment lawyers featured in Variety�s 2018 Legal Impact Report. Prior to ASCAP, Clara held senior roles with National Geographic Channels US and International, Discovery Communications and Viacom. She received her J.D. from New York University School of Law.
