Dick Wingate is Principal, DEV Advisors, a digital entertainment consulting firm that provides expertise to technology companies, content owners, artists and investors.
With more than 40 years of experience in the music and interactive industries, Wingate helped pioneer the digital music business from its infancy as SVP, Content Development at Liquid Audio, Inc, playing an integral role in their 1999 IPO and negotiating the first digital download distribution licenses from the major and indie record labels. He subsequently served as President, Media Development & Chief Content Officer for Nellymoser, an early leader of streaming mobile application services with clients such as Sony, Warner Music, MTV, AT&T and ABC Television. He has been featured or quoted in the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, Wall Street Journal, Time, USA Today, New York Times Magazine and Billboard.
His positions in the record industry included SVP Marketing, Arista Records; SVP A&R PolyGram Records; Director, Talent, Epic Records; and Director, Product Management, Columbia Records. Artists he has been integrally involved with include Bruce Springsteen, Elvis Costello, Aimee Mann, Peter Tosh, Eddy Grant, Garland Jeffreys and many more.
He has been granted lifetime membership in NARAS (Grammys).
Digital Streaming: Envisioning a More Equitable Model

The pandemic has led many streaming royalty recipients to take a hard look at their royalty statements and question the fairness of how streaming and other digital royalties are split. This panel will look at the recent UK-based government hearings on this issue, user-centric and other digital payment models, and the laws and regulations which would have to be changed in order to start rebalancing digital royalty payments.
