Founder, CEO, Songbird Creative

Julie Hurwitz is a 20+ year music industry veteran and the Founder, CEO of Songbird Creative. Founded in 2023, Songbird is a music agency advising record labels and brands on strategy, clearances, recruiting and synch licensing. Their roster includes labels from the US and UK as well as Nigeria, Peru, Iceland, Italy, Germany, India, Ireland, Japan and more.

Before launching Songbird, Julie was President of Synch and Creative Operations at Recognition Music (formerly Hipgnosis Song Management), representing some of the most beloved artists in the world including Neil Young, Nile Rodgers, Leonard Cohen, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Fleetwood Mac, 50 Cent and more. Julie spent more than a decade at Kobalt Music Group as Co-Head of Synch and Brand Partnerships managing a multi-million dollar P&L and a team of 55+ across nine cities. As a licensing negotiation expert, she has closed millions of dollars' worth of artist and brand licenses including Childish Gambino/Google, Steve Winwood/Hershey’s, The Weeknd/Pepsi, Busta Rhymes/Mountain Dew as well as numerous Super Bowl commercials and presidential campaigns. In tandem with Kobalt's People & Culture team, Julie led the company’s recruitment strategy, creating and implementing guidelines to ensure talent pools were composed of qualified and diverse candidates.

Before Kobalt, Julie was VP at Nettwerk Music, Music Producer at Ogilvy Advertising, and founding Executive Creative Director at renowned music production company Q Department. She currently sits on the board of the Association of Music Producers.

Julie loves interior design, tamales, dark comedy and direct communication. She lives in Queens, NY with her husband, two teenagers and their dog, Ziggy.
