Michael Freeman

Creative Director & Founding Partner, Department of Music

Michael Freeman is currently the Creative Director and Founding Partner at the Department of Music, which collaborates with agencies and brands to bring big musical ideas to life through licensing, original music production, sonic branding and artist cultivation.

During his tenure as Executive Music Producer at Ogilvy and Mather New York, he worked with legendary artists like Aretha Franklin and Billy Idol, producing music for Global brands such as American Express, Coca Cola, Nationwide, UPS, IBM, IKEA, Tiffany and NASCAR. Prior to Ogilvy he produced music at advertising agencies McGarry Bowen and Publicis Kaplan Thaler which include clients Disney, Chase Bank, HP and Reebok.

Originally from New Orleans, Michael Freeman is an accomplished woodwind musician who attended NOCCA Jazz for high school, completed his B.M. at Berklee College of Music and has earned a master’s in music technology and production from New York University.

In addition, he has music supervised and produced films which have premiered, aired at the Tribeca Film Festival, BBC, SXSW and the Seattle Film Festival. Michael's awards include an Emmy award for his music production work, along with a Gold and Bronze Cannes Lions.
